Glossary

The words on a scorecard mean the same thing everywhere on this site: in filters, in results, in the scorecard itself, and in the text a share button sends to your group chat. These definitions are the standard each page is held to.

Halal

Permissible under Islamic dietary law. On this site the word is only used with a scope and a source: which meals, and who says so.

Certified halal

Halal status backed by a certificate from a certifying body. Where a certificate is the claim, the certifier is named in the evidence whenever the source names it.

Alcohol-free property

No alcohol served anywhere at the property: restaurants, bars, beach service and minibars. A weaker claim, like alcohol removed from one room, is worded as exactly that.

Ladies-only pool

A pool reserved for women and girls. Dedicated means it is always ladies-only; ladies' hours at a mixed pool are a different, weaker arrangement and are worded as such.

Burkini

Full-coverage swimwear worn for modesty. Policies differ by property: allowed, allowed in ladies-only facilities only, or restricted where a hotel allows only conventional swimsuits.

Prayer room

A dedicated room for prayer at the property. A women's section and opening hours are stated where a source states them.

Qibla

The direction of prayer, towards the Kaaba in Makkah. Some stays mark it in the room or provide a compass or prayer mat.

Wudhu

The ritual washing before prayer. Wudhu-friendly bathrooms have suitable taps and space; where a source states this, it appears in the evidence.

Seclusion level

Our grade of how protected a ladies-only facility is from view, derived from physical facts: dedicated facilities, a ladies-only beach, and the property's alcohol policy. The grade shows its inputs.

Private pool

A pool attached to a specific room type. Private does not mean secluded: a private pool can be overlooked by upper floors, and the scorecard answers that question separately.

Mescit

Turkish for a small prayer room or mosque. The word appears in Turkish hotel fact sheets and is one of the terms our checker reads.

Alkolsüz

Turkish for alcohol-free. Turkish halal resorts state their concept with this word on their own pages.
